Gaming Initiatives

Gaming has become an integral part of the lives of students and non-students alike.  The advent of video games for recreational use, coupled with market innovations, bring gaming-influenced communication technologies to our desktops and hand-held devices.  Together with several other Homewood departments, the DMC has undertaken a number of gaming-related projects and initiatives that integrate gaming into the academic and co-curricular lives of Homewood students. 

Creative Use of Technology Grant

The DMC and Homewood Student Affairs offer an annual grant program for students who can demonstrate a new and creative use of technology. Applications are due in November.

pARTy

A celebration of the creative endeavors of our students. Musical and theatrical performances and exhibits of visual and digital arts are presented throughout the Mattin Center. This event takes place on the Friday afternoon after the last day of spring semester classes.

Ears.Eyes.Open Concert Series

Ears.Eyes.Open is a four-part experimental music and performance art concert series that seeks to bring a diverse group of electronic musicians, and multimedia and performance artists from the Baltimore/Washington area to the Homewood campus. The various styles presented are representative of Baltimore's artistic mainstream, fringe art, and experimental music communities. Each of the four events in the series feature performance, interactive, and educational components.

ArtBots

ArtBots is a presentation of art created by self-contained mobile devices that use sensors and actuators to move over the surface of a canvas to create a work of art. The robots are built by students in the Mechatronics 530.421 class at Johns Hopkins. ArtBots is co-sponsored by the Digital Media Center and Whiting School of Engineering's Department of Mechanical Engineering.

In conjunction with Substance Abuse Awareness Month, Johns Hopkins University Residential Life is teaming up with the Digital Media Center to host a video contest.

Virtual Potato Head is a simple tech demonstration that invites users to try on a variety of virtual masks and hats in a process called ‘augmented reality.’
